The impressive MSC Virtuosa docked at Durban’s Nelson Mandela Terminal for a brief pit-stop on her journey back to Southampton affording the Durban Port Captain and Ship’s Captain the opportunity to swap the traditional crests in recognition of her maiden arrival.  Normally seen cruising the mediterranean seas MSC Virtuoso chose to cruise around the tip of Africa back to Southampton to avoid the current issues around the Red Sea.

Whilst the MSC Virtuosa’s visit to Durban was fleeting, Ross Volk, MD of MSC Cruising South Africa looks forward to bringing such impressive ships to port here on a more regular basis. He stressed the need to build on the long-standing partnerships already forged in Durban between the city and MSC and understands the need to build on infrastructure and tourism capacity to ensure MSC guests can enjoy the best cultural, historical and natural wonders the city has to offer, all of which will provide new entreprenuerial opportunities and create employment for Durbanites.

Living up to to it’s name the MSC Virtuosa is a ship that exudes style and elegance and pays homage to the skill and expertise of the MSC Cruises architects and shipyard partners at Chantiers de l’Atlantique who designed and built this innovative class of ships.  MSC Virtuosa, along with her sister ships MSC Meraviglia, MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa and MSC Euribia, belongs to the “Meraviglia Class”, where the impressive array of onboard experiences come together in perfect harmony with the space and the destinations, to deliver the ultimate cruise holiday experience.

Commissioned in 2021, the MSC Virtuosa has a capacity to host and entertain 6300 passengers and is a marvel of sailing excellence. Larger than the Queen Mary which also recently docked in Durban, the MSC Virtuoso is one of the most environmentally-sound ships at sea and an energy-efficient role model for modern cruising.

A cruise aboard MSC Virtuosa is an immersive entertainment experience. The longest LED Dome at Sea, the indoor promenade features both main and speciality restaurants along with numerous shops. Entertainment includes the expected theatre, cinemas, gym and spa, casino, children’s play areas and five pools, including one of the biggest and most intricate waterparks at sea.

The MSC Yacht Club, the ultimate luxury cruise experience offering the best location of the cabins and a reserved area accessible only to Yacht Club Members, dedicated restaurant and lounges, a large private pool area with solarium and whirlpool baths, 24-hour butler service, dedicated massage rooms and full access to the Thermal Suite in the MSC Aurea Spa.

Perhaps the most unexpected experience can be found at the MSC Starship Club where Rob, the first ever humanoid robotoc bartender at sea transports guests to a futeristic world. As you sip your cosmic cocktail and gaze out of the portholes across the space, Rob and his human colleagues will take you to an exciting journey to discover new galactic destinations.

MSC Virtuosa regularly sets sail across the worlds oceans travelling throughout the Mediterrean and Iberian coast, the Carribean, Canary Islands, Norwegian fjords and and Iceland.
