Invest Durban, the investment promotions division of eThekweni Municipality is taking part in high level discussions and conferences as part of the AIM (Annual Investment Meeting) Congress – the world’s leading investment platform – taking place in Abu Dhabi.

Russell Curtis, CEO of Invest Durban is an invited panelist at a number of the conferences taking place, whilst the rest of the Invest Durban team are on hand to discuss investment opportunities with the attendees via the exhibition area.

The AIM Congress theme for 2024 – Adapting to a Shifting Investment Landscape: Harnessing new potential for global economic development – is a concept being explored by the attending delegates as they focus attention on foreign investment, SME, Start-ups, Future cities and the digital economy.

Russell emphasised the importance of enhancing the trade balances between countries to ensure the investment opportunities provide equal long-term employment opportunities and skills tranfers to increase living standards particularly in countries such as South Africa. He also emphasised the benefits already gained with the association of the New Development bank of which South Africa has been the largest beneficiary to date.

With the recent shift to incorporate more countries into the BRICS block of countries, the topic is clearly one of great importance to encourage investment between the BRICS member countries, and AIM itself is a vital meeting arena for Invest Durban to profile our cities assets.

Now expanded to include the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, adding economic weight to exisiting BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China andSouth Africa) offers even greater opportunity for important investment exchanges and cooperation, making it particularly important for the Invest Durban team to be taking such an active role in this 2024 AIM Congress.

Russia took over the Brics Presidency in 2024, following on from South Africa’s chairmanship in 2023. The Brics Business Forum session ath AIM will bring together representatives of Brics countries – business, diplomats and distinquished guests.

For the first time this year Sergey Katyrin – CCI RF President, Chairman of the Brics Business Council will take part in the AIM congress. At these sessions high level speakers including Russel Curtis of Invest Durban (South Africa) and others from UAE, Egypt, China, India etc, will exchange views and plans on BRICS dimension expansion and growth as well as priorities and areas of coopoeration between the BRICS countries specifically.
