
Durban is set to become the epicentre of maritime innovation and sustainability this September with the highly anticipated Blue Economy Week, running from September 24 to 28, 2024. Following the launch of the Inner-City Regeneration Programme by the eThekwini Municipality in December 2023, this event will highlight the city’s commitment to harnessing the potential of its Blue Economy to attract and enhance international events.
The Blue Economy Week will showcase cutting-edge technologies, innovations, and solutions derived from scientific research and indigenous knowledge. This transformative week will also engage the community in sustainable ocean-based economic activities, reinforcing Durban’s status as a premier global tourism destination. Coinciding with World Tourism Day on 27 September, the week’s diverse activities will emphasise Durban’s attractions, including adventure activities, shopping, dining, museums, galleries, and its beautiful beaches.
Blue Economy Week in Durban, running from 24 to 28 September 2024, will feature a dynamic lineup of events celebrating marine innovation and sustainability. The week will kick off with the launch of the Summer Campaign and the Blue Economy Week announcement on 11 September.
Highlights include the International Coastal Clean-up on September 21, and a Cultural Carnival on 24 September.
25 September will host a Film Master Class and beach activities, while the 26th will offer a Short Film Challenge, beach games, and Maritime Careers Expo. World Tourism Day on 27 September will be marked by celebrations, mangrove activities, and educational trails. The week will conclude with a Closing Ceremony on 28 September, featuring a Fashion Extravaganza, beach sports, and a carnival.
